As of December 9th:

Welcome to the Fashion and Beauty Forum's "Tips, Tutorials, and Reviews for Makeup and Beauty" Thread!

Please post reviews to makeup and other beauty products, video and article tips, tutorials, and everything else you recommend to start somebody out in the world of beauty products. This is not the place to cut down other posters for using makeup.

Bi-monthly, a new poll will be put up to review a beauty product. If there is a product you want on the poll, please DM it to me. I am keeping a list of products that are suggested for reviewing.

Default "How To: Assemble Makeup Brush Kit

How To: Assemble a Makeup Brush Kit - Real Simple

If you never played around with make-up brushes a simple guide to getting started on what to get. I have never found a good bargain brand in brushes. I was wondering about those e.l.f. brushes I saw:
Makeup Brushes | elf Cosmetics
Are they crap?

I want to collect MAC brushes so if anyone has style # recommendations for MACs do chime in.

I'm a makeup brush junkie. I have well over a hundred including brushes from MAC, Stila, BeneFit, etc. A good low cost alternative to the highest priced brushes is Sephora. They sell name brands but also offer their own brand which is usually a good quality at a lower price.

Are you in Pittsburgh? (since your name is pitt_transplant) If so, I love the Sephora on Walnut Street in Shadyside.

Oh, and besides the brushes listed on the site you linked, another "must have" is a push brush. I won't line my eyes without mine.

Elf is crap all around.

I have about 60 brushes ranging from MAC to Chanel to CVS.

I find the "essence of beauty" brushes at CVS are a VERY good low cost alternative to the MAC brushes. The Sephora "house brand" brushes are just as expensive as MAC now!

If you wear liquid foundation, you cannot beat the MAC 187 for application. It is pricey but blends flawlessly.

I just checked a handful of Sephora brushes against their higher end counterparts and most of the Sephora brand brushes were less expensive by $4 to $13 or so. That's a significant savings when you're buying several brushes to buildi your collection.

If you're looking for really inexpensive, I've had good luck with Face Secrets brushes, sold at Sally Beauty Supply stores.

Stay away from the foundation brush of Avon. At $10 that was a bad buy. I bought the Sephora brand for $10 and I can already tell the differnece.

Askmemakeup and MissChievous were the ones that inspired me to start my own youtube channel, LisaFreemontStreet. I especially love their pinup, retro inspired tutorials. I also really enjoy Ilovegerardo's hair tutorials, although her hair is so long and thick that I really have to work hard to accomplish her styles.
