or do you prefer a hair salon where you get your hair done?

Some of the Chinese salons have caused fungal infections from what I hear!!

I went a couple times until I saw the Asian girl tell the next customer to come on over for the pedicure and rinsed the foot bath out--but never cleaned it!so for obvious reasons I stopped going! Gross.

Another turnoff is when they start talking in Vietnamese and you don't have a clue if they are talking about you! RUDE! in my opinion!! I had a friend once tell the girl to speak English and stop talking in another language in front of her!!

Ive never had either a professional manicure OR pedicure for the very reasons you've described.

I dont want someone talking in front of me in a language that I cannot understand. Nor do I like anyone messing around with my feet...but this one is a personal preference.

I do my nails myself. I consider going to a nail salon on a regular basis but feel it is not worthwhile expense. My nails are groomed more or less and that's good enough for me. I'd only go for my cuticles but whatever, my hands are wrinkly, that's all anyone's gonna notice.

A friend told me about a nail place in one of the strip malls. Everything was find for almost a year and then the owner sponsored more relatives into the country and put them to work for her. The place started to go down and none of the relatives working there spoke one word of English. Due to things I would see I just stopped going there. I just do my own.

Here is a funny about nail salons:

I go often to nail salons for manicures and pedicures and I enjoy it. You just need to find a good salon thats all.

Here in Los Angeles there are probably 2-3 nail salons on each block in some areas, some are nicer and others are not but you can tell as soon as you walk in. I go to the ones with the fancy chairs that have the "foot hottub" built into it. They are also air heavily air conditioned so that you dont smell all the fumes.

I just do them myself---only takes a little time--and I can do it the way I like it!

Where I live there is an Asian nail salon on every block. I just go to the better ones, not the whole in the wall types. I have to get manis/pedis. I have some weird thing where I hate cutting nails, even my daughters nails have always been done at a salon b/c of that. My husband always laughs that I am training her to be just like me. I have a 13 yr old who says things like, oh I think its time for a facial, or I really need to go get my brows done. But not that into makeup thankfully.

At Nail Salons, Beauty Treatments Can Have a Distinctly Unglamorous Side - New York Times

I go to a asian nail salon. They are really clean and wonderful.. I love that I dont feel that I have to make small talk with them. We chit chat some but for the most part we have a hard time understanding eachother. So I can just sit back and enjoy my moment with no kids, and relax.
What I like the most is they are super fast. It takes less about 20 min for a fill.

I go to a friend of mine who happens to be a nail tech. Yeah, I still have to pay, but at least she speaks English and doesn't wear a mask. I, on the other hand, speak Ebonics and SHOULD wear a mask!!!

I used to go weekly to a Korean owned & run salon. Never had any problems. They were very good to me! Sure they spoke Korean and I have no doubts they have talked about me, but it doesn't bother me. I've been going to them for over 5 years. The only reason why I haven't been going recently is because I don't have much time with a toddler & infant. I can't wait to get my tootsies back in that pedicure chair!!!!

In fact, I go to all Korean salons for my "maintenance": Brazilian waxings, mani/pedis and japanese straightening. They just seem to do the best job and they're the most reasonably priced.
