I've always found that perfume changes a lot on me (so do cosmetic colors, what is pink in a tube will change to fuschia on me, whereas brownish colors change to a nice bronze).
Back to perfume, Opium has been my favorite forever, but in warm weather White Linen feels more fresh. I also liked Black by Kenneth Cole; don't know if it is around anymore. If I don't like the celebrity I cannot bring myself to try the product.....
Ann, I remember that catalog, Vermont Country Store, and it was always interesting!

Some strong scents bring on migraines for me so I have to be very careful with perfumes. My favorites and those that do not seem to cause headaches are Creed's Citrus Bigarrade and Fleurrissimo. I also love to mix Jo Malone's fagrances as long as I stick to the citrus and light green florals. My all time favorites for winter are Joy and Caron's Narcisse Noir. Bellodgia used to be another favorite but it can trigger those pesky migraines so sadly I've had to give it up.

My very, very favorite is "Cher Uninhibited", discontinued in the 80's. I have enough to last me awhile, but Ebay is about my only source when I'll need it.
Others:
Paloma Picasso
Mesmerize by Avon
Tabu
Aphrodesia (long gone, but I still have an old bottle of my mom's)
Egyptian Oil (a blend that I buy from a private supplier)
Frangipani Oil

I am a bit of a perfume fanatic and for years have not been able to go without having Paloma Picasso, Oscar, White Shoulders and Estee Lauder's Private Collection around the house but I have fallen in love with a new perfume, like it more than any of the others and it's a cheap one to boot! American Beauty Beloved. I only tested it because I saw Ashley Judd on the box and I swear it is the most beautiful perfume I have ever smelled. I had a couple of women ask me today at the voting polls what it was and where could they get it so I think I made a good choice. Yay for the cheapy stuff finally!

I should start a new thread, 'Fragrances that Drive You Crazy' or something.
Jungle Gardenia is overpowering but the later decades produced several scents that I hope to never smell again. A few that I will never forget are:
-Any/all musk fragrances
-Charlie
-? Obsession --the bottles was circular and rather flat--with an Oriental motif
-Giorgio--almost the most cloying scent ever

Hee. I always liked Jungle Gardenia. But then gardenia's are my favorite flower. The worst for me was Poison. Ugh. I made the mistake of wearing that once and my friend booted me out of her car and had me go into a BK to wash it off before she would let me back in. Strong stuff. Very few women can wear it and get away with it. Most of us end up smelling like we haven't bathed in six years.

My perfume of choice is Bvlgari, but I only wear it on special occasions. I prefer Victoria's Secret or Bath and Body Works lotions for daily use.
