in a more intimate setting where the designer described the creations, aesthetics, thought patterns etc.

Eveningwear designer Ms. Lhuillier, who has staged shows for 500 to 600 retailers and press at the New York fashion week tent in Bryant Park for at least six years, will instead debut her Fall 2009 collection in a more intimate showroom setting, says Paul Wilmot, whose public-relations firm Paul Wilmot Communications, represents Ms. Lhuillier. Mr. Khan, whom Mr. Wilmot’s firm also represents, will also skip the tent next month in favor of an informal presentation.

I work in the fashion industry for a company that regular shows at Bryant Park.

There are quite a few designers this year who are not participating in the shows at the tents. I get the impression that it is mainly because of the cost.

It is very expensive to put on a show and with the economy the way it is, some companies can't justify the expense. It would be a slap in the face to those employees who were laid off.

Other designers not showing are Betsey Johnson and Vera Wang and I am sure there will be additional announcements coming!

I think it's the perfect reason for designers to try something new. It makes sense that financially there just isn't enough of a budget to put on such theatrics.

I can't wait to see how they pull it off.
