Default Life with jewlery - care, behavior and finds?

I don't know a thing about rings etc when it comes to wear and tear...

But I was looking at just fun costume pieces and remembered all the great stuff that was in my grandma's costume jewelry box that was just fun to look at and we were actually allowed to play with it too..

But anyway..spill the beans on attributes and shortcoming of certain material lux or cheapie fun. Any sites you like you shop at please post them.

Right before the movie Titanic came out, I was buying "old" (1880s-1930s) Bohemian garnet jewelry on eBay. I have some lovely old "garnet gold" (9k, 10k) chandelier necklaces and earrings - and then the movie came out, created a run on it and I've never been able to afford it for casual purchases again. Grrr.

The color of the old garnets is just about unmatched by today's garnets, which tend to have a brownish cast, even the pyropes, which are supposed to be purplish.

A lot of the older stuff is sort of garish by modern tastes, but there are some delicate, beautiful chandelier-style necklaces out there. They used to be the the 100s range, and now the good ones are in the 1000s range.
