I was in a play a few years ago and during a change in scenes (stage went dark) I tripped on something and broke off one heel. Had no other shoes to change into so I just did the next scene on tip toe on the side with no heel. No one seemed to notice.
Several times. Once it was a 2" heel -- haven't worn those in years! -- but it was the middle of the day and I had to live with it until I got home. Another time I was flying down the steps of my apartment building when my heel got caught on the metal strip at the edge of the step -- the heel ripped off and I went headfirst down the remaining steps. Thank goodness I was almost at the bottom.
Its just one of those anxiety fears of "dear god" praying to not let you die by footwear choice. LOL
Well, I'm fairly certain that my current Footwear Du Jour -- Lands End All-Weather Mocs -- are not going to do me in. And in the summer I'll swap them for a safe pair of Birks.
Yeah, I was pretty embarrassed too. I was just walking down the street and the heel got caught in the metal grates. I took a half a step more before realizing something was wrong and when I tried to get it out, the heel snaps off.
I've learned to avoid those heel traps like nobody's business.
I was dancing wildly and drunkenly at a wedding in the 80s in my backless purple suede dress and snapped off my 3 inch heel. After that I almost drove over an embankment in the parking lot.
I got sober a few years later.
