Hi everyone,
can anyone share with me their opinions on being Avon's Consultant? I was thinking of doing it, but I wanted to hear the stories, and advice from people that did it before, or that are doing it...Something like pros and cons...THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

I was an Avon lady for about four years. I stopped selling about a year and half ago when gas prices started going up. As in any business, there are good and bad things about it, so here are some:
PROS
- If you like Avon's products, you will love getting everything at a discount. The larger your sales, the bigger your discount.
- You will meet many people and make friends. As I am a SAHM, it was good for me to get out and feel "useful" again.
- Avon has a great internet ordering system and website with alot of helpful information.
- I really enjoyed the whole process of getting the order every two weeks, looking at all of the new products, and putting the orders together. I always tried to includes samples of new products in the orders.
- Avon holds yearly dinner/award nights for those that have high sales.

CONS
- If you are shy, it is sometimes hard to get new customers. I found one of the best ways was to go to businesses like banks, beauty shops, etc. and ask the owner if it is OK to leave some brochures.
- It wasn't always my favorite thing to drive around making deliveries, especially when gas prices were higher. I did try to make arrangements to do all the deliveries in one or two trips, or while the kids were in school.
- It can be a bummer when you have a really large order, but then the customer decides to return half of the stuff. BTW, you have to pay the shipping unless the merchandise was damaged. Unfortunately, some customers do this repeatedly.
- Likewise, you can get customers that place huge orders, but when you call to arrange for a delivery time and tell them the amount, they suddenly can't afford it. I always wondered why people would order stuff if they couldn't pay for it. Again, you a stuck returning it or trying to resell it.
- Even though you a getting a discount, it's very easy to order lots of stuff for yourself and end up with very little profit.

If you have any specific questions, let me know. I'd be very happy to help you.
