Flannel Shirts
Why do people in rural areas wear flannel shirts so often? Here in the suburban Northeast, they are totally out of style! In fact, I think that they are the ugliest shirts ever designed. Why do people wear them?

Warmth, comfort, and praticality?
I don't think they're meant to be a fashion statement.

They feel warm when it's cold outside. And they seem to go pretty good with a pair of jeans.

It may be surprising, but not everyone cares about "style."
If someone is offended by flannel shirts, I would say that is not the shirt wearer's problem, but theirs.

However, I do believe that their is indeed a "style" to flannel shirts...they seem quite popular in some areas...why not just wear a sweater or sweat-shirt?...

Apparently, in some areas the surburban Northeast is somewhat totally out of style as well.
And yes, flannel is comfortable, warm where needed and easy to wear. Especially on a casual weekend morning with just enough chill in the air that a bathrobe is to much but a bare back is a bit too cool.

Well, I've got to tell you. I have a wonderful memory of my DH wearing a plaid flannel shirt. We were staying at a log cabin in the mountains of TN one winter just before we married and I can recall it as though it was yesterday. I smelled breakfast cooking and walked out of the bedroom to see DH bent over a fireplace building the nicest fire. Tight, great looking jeans, boots and a flannel shirt that showed off arms nearly as big as tree trunks. HOT! And he smelled sooo good! He's really a city slicker that was playing country squire/lumber jack that week-end and I loved it. So, there are some of us that don't freak over flannel.

I HATE, HATE, HATE them - husband LOVES, LOVES, LOVES them
Many years ago, we found some that didn't look "old man plaid" - they were flannel but nice colors, stripes, etc. - but they they've since worn out and now again there are only the plaids. He likes them but (I may have mentioned this - I HATE them.
