I decided to go look at shorts on my lunch hour today, and what a disappointment!!!! For some reason, the misses/womens sizes do not fit me right. I think it is because from my waist to my hips is a more gradual curve, rather than the "hourglass" type. So, I usually get about a size 5 in Juniors. Problem solved.....................NO!!!

All the juniors shorts that I find are so short that (as my mom used to say) you could see all the way up to your tonsils!!! I like to at least cover my butt, ya know!

So then, you go to the other end of the spectrum and there are shorts that come to your knees - No thanks!!

I am looking for some "normal" shorts - you know, somewhere between hooker and old lady!!!! Anyone have any ideas of where I can find something like this????

I like the way American Eagle shorts fit. I never have a problem finding shorts of varying lengths there.

Have you tried places like REI? Most of the "outdoorsy" brands (Patagonia, Prana, Columbia etc) are made for "active women" (often not quite so hip-y) and come in lengths that cover the rear. They tend to be bombproof as well.

Thanks for the ideas everyone! I live in an area that doesn't have much to offer in clothing stores, but I can travel a little ways and probably find one of these stores. That will give me an excuse to get out of town, anyways!!

I bought a nice pair of black dressy shorts at White House/Black Market the other day. They are not "hooker shorts" nor are they down to your knees at all. Just a nice in between that you can wear w/ a tee and flip flops or dress up and wear a slight heel with them. They had several other pairs as well but I fell for these.

I feel your pain - I wear anywhere from a 12/14 girl's to a 0/1 Jr. - seems like the "in" (GAG) thing is super short shorts instead of something that anyone over 15 would want to wear (I have a really hard time finding jeans and dress slacks also)

I've never liked shorts, and I don't like the way capris look, so I either wear pants all summer long or get "high-water" styled pants (I think there's a style called "gauchos" or something now too?) and they seem to do the trick for me.
In general though I've always had a problem with pants fitting me the way I like so I've given up and usually wear cargoes. :/
