Flip flops. If you are wanting a pair of sports sandals spend the money and go for the Chacos or Tevas. They are great for walking, hiking, rafting, etc. but airy and stylish. The sport sandals you showed a picture of are really ugly!
Thanks for your honesty.
I don't go rafting but I figure that if I go hiking or biking, might as well just wear gym shoes. The sandals would be for everything else (shopping, running errands, ballgames, barbeques, etc). So probably best to just get something light and easy to slip on and off? Do you have any recommendations as far as flip flops go? Are the ones in the picture fine or should I find another pair?

Those flip flops are fine. Just make sure you find a pair that are comfortable and don't give you blisters. Steer clear of the plastic ones too!
I wear flip flops with my cargo shorts, HOWEVER, I stopped doing this after I split my toes/ankle open when I dropped something on them. I no longer wear sandals outdoors...it cost me a $20k hospital ER bill (luckily I had insurance) to sew some flesh back onto my foot.
Now it's jeans and Asolo hiking shoes for me. Works and looks great.

They're comfortable if I don't do a lot of walking. They might need to be broken in some more. If they are still irritating then I'll probably look for another pair. This pair doesn't have arch support and the surface is kinda hard.
Nah, you don't need to burn them, you can sell them on Ebay and still get around $20 or so for them . Actually, I love Keen sandals for outdoor activities, such as hiking!

Burn those god awful "keen" sandals and be done with it.
The sneakers are acceptable, but the second sandals are best.
LOL...I think I'll just put them on Ebay since I've only worn them a couple of times.
I can't believe the number of posters who thought the flip flops look better....I've always been a gym shoes wearing guy and just recently discovered the "joy" of wearing sandals. They are so much more comfortable. I always thought that ladies didn't like guys in sandals and even though I enjoyed wearing them, I felt funny about wearing them in public. I still feel a bit awkward wearing them but I have more confidence now after seeing this poll. It'll just be kinda awkward to start wearing them around people I've known for years since it's kinda uncharacteristic of me lol.
