I am a international investor and have a group that wants to open a new fashion business in the USA in the East Coast.
My business intuition is that they Wait till after the holidays to see how the market shared both pro and con. My thought and business mind need to figure out what then after 12/09 would be an ideal time to open. I sense the recession is much over in the metropolitan east coast but when do most people start buying again after the holiday season is done. I was thinking, May of 2010 being this would be the time when most will be looking forward to the warmer months, Mothers day, Graduation, Prom, Fathers Day and the June Bride.
It depends on what you are selling, but usually opening pre-holiday season is the best bet. If you open a store around October it gives people time to know you are there and you will benefit from holiday foot traffic in November-December. Most stores selling clothing have their spring/summer stuff in by March-April, if you wait till much later you will be a little behind. Also, most stores use post-holiday/winter sales to attract customers in the late winter/early spring months so customers can also see their new merchandise.
