It could be your conditioner or something you use on your hair adding to the breakout. (even if it is hormonal) Try using some sort of residue free wash after your rinse and condition. And I talked about it before but that juice beauty stuff that you leave on to fight acne is awesome. I get all types of acne at times. It usually kicks up from: - not exfoliating, - out of juice beauty stuff , -pms, -certain hair products, using a soap or lotion that blocks my pores.
You should give any treatment about 2 months so you can see your skin fully turned over to a fresh slate with whatever you are doing.

Cystic is nasty stuff. The only thing that worked for me was Accutane. Even nastier stuff.
But five years later I now breakout if I'm stressed or leave makeup on..that's it. On a scale of 1-10, mine went from a 9 to a 1.5. I recommend it if you can deal with the side effects.

Luckily spidrbear, the anti biotic route is working for me, and the only side effect is that it makes me a tad low energy, not too bad. I just can't go off of it for more than a few days.
Las Vegas drunk, the fish oil may be the thing that would actually work for me, as it has an effect on cholestorol. My good HDL is low. Also I am a tad ADD,which fish oil is good for, so maybe my body is missing something that the Alpha fatty acids provide, as in the fish oil. Maybe I will try it for a few months and then try no amoxcillin and see if it has helped.
Yes BigD Geek, the acne has made me virtually wrinkle free, and the topical retin A I use helps, but mostly I just don't have the thin dry skin that wrinkles. Just the ususl creases that come with time, and they aren't too bad either. However, my marks from acne look alot like age spots before they fade, and that takes forever. My Derm says there is no treatment, laser, etc that would fade them, so I really have to just prevent them altogether.
Well it seems that Acne is a disgusting many tentacled beast that has many causes and no harmless solution.

Had a little bit till probably mid-forties. (I'm 54 now.) Even now it's possible to a have a small break-out occasionally, but that is very rare anymore. I have always had oily skin and I still do. It's just much LESS so.

I had acne bad until I was 21. What happened then, you ask? I joined the Coast Guard and went to sea. The salt water dried it up quickly. And, if you notice, look at pictures of Navy and CG young people on ships. They always have clear skin. Also, people who live on the ocean coasts generally do, too. I tried everything (back in the 1970s) to clear it up. I think the salt air did the trick. Try a beach vacation or a cruise. Either way, you'll be glad you did. We all need a vacation anyway.

h what a cure! I did live near an ocean in my 20,s, went off the Pill, and got the deep acne. Cured only by pregnancy. Again, topical bumpy acne gets better with sun and probably sea. Mine is a different beast, the hormonal internal kind.
However, its gray and gloomy here where I live so a seaside trip would improve my outlook!

I thought fish oil would work but it didn't.
Amazon.com: Unblemished: Stop Breakouts! Fight Acne! Transform Your Life! Reclaim Your Self-Esteem with the Proven 3-Step Program Using Over-the-Counter Medications (9780743482042): Katie M.D. Rodan, Kathy M.D. Fields, Vanessa Williams: Books
I picked this book up in 2004 right before I went on the pill. Rodan and Fields who have mades tens of millions hawking their Pro Activ on TV admit in the book that sometimes the birthcontrol pill is the solution.
It seems like you don't want to go on the pill and I really don't blame you. My acne was very very distressing, that I no longer deal with it because of the pill has made me sort of a true believer. The pill is toxic though and I look forward to going off it. However, it's really obvious to my acne is linked to an encrinology problem related to aging and menopause. Although my skin did not break out badly when I went off the pill my chest did. I have new scars on my chest that I shouldn't have. My advice to you is to find an endocrinologist and get hormonal help, whether that is the pill or bioidentical hormones. You have options. Staying on an antibiotic for years on end is wearing down your immune system and is not a good long term solution. Waiting for your skin to magically clear up isn't the right approach either. If that is what you want to do you might have to wait another decade or longer. Isn't your acne causing you distress? Wouldn't you rather that it was cleared up now?

Mine went away when I stopped eating anything that came from cows--found out I was intolerant to Casein, the protein in dairy. Stopped to help my nasal allergy problems and my skin cleared--at age 40, after having acne since age 13. Anytime I "cheat" and eat anything with milk, cream, or butter I get awful cystic acne bumps on my face, and bumps on my back and chest. It's worth it to me not to eat the stuff and, after two years without it, I can't stand the taste.
I'm also taking fish oil too.
