I just can't bring myself to buy a pair. I mean, they looked SO horrible back then, and I don't see things much differently today.
Except back then we wore them with HUGE BULKY Loooooooong sweaters that had shoulder pads in them that were larger than the pads a football player wears. Nowadays the leggings are worn w/ tops/tunics/sweaters that are a lot more flattering, fitted and paired with a nice belt to give shape instead of a big blob. I actually like them now and think they look great.
Just got a small ad in the mail from Cache`, they carry them and they look GREAT! You can probably see the same pics on their website. It is a totally different look than back in the 80's.
i didn't wear leggings back in 80s (because i was in my teens), and since i was (and still am very skinny) i struggled as i wanted to wear them but they didn't look good on my skinny legs.
this time around (married and a mom of 2) i could care less had bad or good they look. i have two pairs, grey and black and wear them with longer shirts or sweaters. so yeah i would suggest if you like them rock em
So many nice long sweaters out these days that it could possibly lead to me trying leggings at some point........seems like only yesterday that I was wearing them though and I can not believe they are back, and that people are wearing them (seems like they were so tacky back then).
I don't own any, but I love some of the bright, fun colors that I've been seeing in catalogs (most currently, the Victoria's Secret catalog), such as bright pink, and turquoise.
Heh, I used to wear leggings in public the last time they were in style--circa 1989. That alone is an indication that I probably shouldn't wear them again this time around.
That's always been my motto too "If I was old enough to rock the trend the first time around, I'll pass on the second".
I have to admit, though, that I was glad to see leggings in the stores again. I just wear them differently. As another poster mentioned, pantyhose feel icky, yet I live in a cold climate. I look for thick cotton-y or rayon knitted leggings (more like thin pants than tights) and pair them with dresses and skirts and boots. I'd never wear them with just a shirt or sweater and heels as we did in the 80's. I'll leave that look to the 90lb 20-year olds.
plaidmom
