Men in Europe do not wear skinny jeans, they wear straight leg jeans. There is a huge difference. Skinny jeans are what the punk/emo band and followers wear - this is more common in the States than Europe. I've attached three examples; skinny, straight, and baggy. Which ones look the best?

I think it's nice to see guys who are interested in looking good. There are a variety of ways that guys can dress, to accentuate their appearance. Some guys look good wearing baggier clothing, but some guys look good (me included) wearing clothing that is cut for well defined or thin guys. The more form-fitting styles have a clean look. Also, carrying some extra pounds doesn't preclude a guy from looking good. I know a couple of big guys who always look great.
It seems like the trend for men is getting skinnier and skinnier these days, but I've always prefered a man with a few extra pounds (no, not John Goodman extra). I always find myself attracted to those who are tall and a little on the stockier side, and opposed to the waifish types.
Hanes used to have the perfect slogan: Nothing goes right when your underwear's tight.
It might be appropriate for tight pants or jeans too.
It should be nothing goes right when your underwear's TOO tight!
Now that you bring it up, most European guys aren't into big, baggy boxer shorts either. Probably because they always bunch up in the ass and around the legs when their jeans aren't similarly oversized.
I wear fitted, not skin tight jeans. I am happy to see a trend away from the baggy, oversized look. To me it just looks on the sloppy, uncaring side. If I can "grab a handful of fabric " for most of the inseam they are too big.
I have straight, slim, skinny, and super(!) skinny jeans. I find that the slim ones look best on me, but some guys really look good in skinny jeans; however, I think most guys should stray away from the skin hugging super skinny types. Guys just generally don't have good legs for that. Also, the crotch area on skinny jeans, if designed well, should not be too tight or uncomfortable unless you're really well endowed. lol
Why are American women so turned off to them? I am sure that there are some US women that like the look, but it seems to me that more do not like men dressed like that. Someone made a comment that European men dress like women! Perhaps American women dress like men just by wearing pants!!! In some cultures women do not wear pants. Please try to look at this fashion style through another perspective...tight pants are not necessarily feminine.
Anyway, I do believe that women who are the most turned off to men in tight trousers are more conservative and do not live in big cities. Why? I think many US women feel that tight jeans are feminine and that men should dress like real men. ALTHOUGH IF YOU TOLD THOSE WOMEN TO DRESS LIKE WOMEN, AND NOT IN MEN'S PANTS THEY WOULD GET OFFENDED. Double standard, yes. Also, I beleive that there is still a cultural taught idea in how real men should dress and behave. Women are freer to break down gender barriers but men are not (Male kindergarten teachers still raise more eyebrows than female cops) Hence, women are more free to choose an article of clothing that has traditionally been male (Yes, jeans were for decades Man's pants!!!) than men are in choosing traditionally feminine articles of clothing. I am not saying that tight is necessarily feminine...it you are muscular go ahead and shows off your body...but conservative women still have an almost ingrained notion of what real men should be.
But as for style...some men think they look good in them. They feel good in them. If that is what makes them happy, than more power to them!
So basically you just asked this question to #1) start and argument or #2) you only want people to agree with you.
I for one don't like them...that in no way says that men can't wear them. No need to insult those who don't agree with you.
If you don't really want people honest opinions, then don't ask the question.
