I am a guy in my 40's and love the look of these. Color question. I have heard they should not match the tie, but compliment it. True? Or should it match the shirt?

Any pictures exapmples would help too.

It should not match either the tie or the shirt, unless you are wearing a white shirt and decide to go with a plain white PS. Choosing a color to complement the tie is ideal.

I've never bought one or had any commercial connection to him, but Kent Wang makes some great looking pocket squares.

Pocket squares – How should they match the tie – BELISI

A Suitable Wardrobe: Pocket Squares Are Important

I would agree that it doesn't have to match, but compliment. However, you can be original and match, but it all depends on the combination.
