Is LABIOPLASTY a good thing?
My girlfriend has a friend who wants to get labiaplasty.
She says that her labia are too big and it looks ugly.
Evidently, a couple of guys she was dating recently were turned off when they saw her nude, both made fun of her, and both never called her again. She is single and very good looking, but she thinks it's a deal breaker for men.
Well, she asked me what I think about it, and I said that I love women with large labia just like I love women with smaller labia and I love women with medium labia and well... you get the picture - I love it all. To me that part of the woman's body is totally sexy. Plus, it seems kind of awful to me what this culture is coming to, I mean women willing to go through some form of genital cutting/mutilation for what they perceive to be cosmetic beauty. Most of my friends (guys) also seem to enjoy all sizes of labia.
Well, the girl in question ... with my girlfriend's approval, took a picture of her situation down there and sent it to me by email. Honestly, it was quite beautiful and very sexy. Sure, the labia were way above average, but I told her not to go through with the surgery. The doctor that wants to do the surgery disagrees with me and told me I was ignorant and says that they are oversized and must be cut. The girl thanked me for my opinion, but she says that when she looks at herself in the mirror, she is disgusted.
My opinion, is that there is psychological baggage behind her feelings - many women are taught that that whole area is not beautiful, and so many women think... well my hair is sexy and my breasts are sexy, and my skin is soft, and my curves are sexy and then... they look down there, and they think it's ugly compared to the rest of their body.
Any thoughts? I saw her a couple of days ago, and she still plans to go through with the surgery. My girlfriend has seen the situation too, and she agrees with me, they are above average in size, but still beautiful and should be saved.
Any thoughts?

There are women so self absorbed that they spend time looking at their labia in the mirror and not only scrutinizing it but showing to gather opinions?
Someone seriously needs a life.

I don't know. I've heard some women actually have physical pain from them, and have to...errr...adjust themselves when wearing pants and such. Sometimes they can be so big that they show through tight clothing and leggings, not fun.
I wish she didn't feel like she had to have it done BUT if it's an issue for her it's not going to go away with positive thinking.

I've also heard of women who are in pain because of them, rubbing, etc so if that were the case I would say go for it. I can't imagine a guy making fun a girl for that? Weird..
Good on you though for being a good friend and trying to encourage her.

My first thought: "It sounds painful!!!" If she's not having any discomfort, why have surgery? I think she needs to find a different kind of man.

There are sites that show "before and after" photos. While the difference is noticeable...I don't really see the purpose. I think the OP's friend needs to spend more time ignoring the idiots and less time worrying about what she looks like down there.

Instead of a surgeon, the OP's friend should pay a different sort of doctor to help her work out these body image issues. I honestly doubt that two different men actually made fun of her because of her labia and didn't want her anymore. I mean, really, there just has to be more to it than that.

The idea of having unnecessary surgery on delicate girly parts is too repulsive to even consider. The possibility of lifelong complications also is too much.
I agree that she needs to find a better class of men -- ones who think beauty comes from within and who want to love her, and not just her labia.

I think people are making too big of a deal about this. This problem can cause more than just low self confidence in that area. They can cause pain and discomfort as well. The surgery is very, very simple and is done under a local anesthetic. The patient can usually return to work the following day. Dissolvable stitches disappear on their own. The risks are very minimal as long as the patient finds an excellent doctor and views his/her portfolio with photos first. I'd also interview other patients prior to making a final decision. All-in-all, it is her body to do what she wants with. I personally think that breast implants are much more invasive and a much riskier surgery that don't get half this attention.

Was she being called Dumbo?
That seems pretty stupid to me and I'm actually having a hard time imagining guys openly ridiculing a woman on this basis. Guys are usually pretty excited to even be in that position.
Unless you are a pornstar who is a little worse for wear after several miles of pecker have come your way, that smells like red herring.
