Actually, what is evident here is that you have a mold for which you'd like a "lady" to fit, but cannot seem to find any person to fit that mold. And if ladies (here and out in the world) have lost that "style" that made us "ladies", why are guys still pining for us as we are?

Some women prefer heels, a-line skirts, and nice tops. Some prefer sneakers, jeans, and tees. You'll just have to find the "one" who'll wear the former 24/7 for you.

my first wife who passed away was like that type of women for she could wear anything from heels to hikeing boots to flip flops on the beach type of women..she used to have this saying that a women should be able to pull off any form of dress and look good doing it ...

she would put on evening dress with heels when i was have dinning in ceremony in the unit when i was in the military to hikeing boots and blue jeans pants to go camping plus her idea of camping and my idea about camping was two diff things for she wanted to rough it and i want a full service lodge type of place to wearing a set of ropers for working with the family on the farm to wearing flip flops for the beach ..

she would go hunting with me and help with the butching of the elk or deer when we putting the meat up for the family to eat at a later time in the freezer ..she was not allways likeing the facts that some animals where killed more for there set of the trophy antlers for the puting up on the wall instead of takeing it for meat to have the family eat to stetch the food budget at times..

Babara Mandrell is that type of women who can go from high heels to combat boots and camo face paint to go and play paintball with her son out in the woods with husband and son ..

There's actually a lot of women who can and will do those things as well. There's also some women who won't go near anything that has the ability to fire paint in the shape of balls at a high velocity. There's also some women who would rather use a high-heel as an eye-gouger than a foot ornament.

Has nothing to do with "losing their style", it's just that you have in your mind what the perfect woman is and does based on your first wife. So now your view of women as a whole is tainted by her "perfection". Not every female will fit into that mold.

In Russia, it's common for women to wear their class on their sleeve - and thus have the latest-greatest trendy clothes complete with matching heels. I know several people locally who make it their duty to let everyone know that they have money. ((One of whom decided to buy a second car to drive because her car was in the shop for a month and she hated driving a rental)) Others of us are happy with whatever clothes happen to fit and don't look like they belong on a corner-street hobo.

What really amazed me is even the women walking on the beach were wearing heels.

It looked to me like Russian women will not leave the house in any other shoes but heels. They looked like they enjoyed wearing them too. They didn't look oppressed they looked empowered. In many of the couples I saw the woman in her heels towered over the man. American women are uncomfortable with this.

What's interesting is that at one time the U.S and Russia were probably similar when it came to women wearing heels. My guess is around the same exact time American women stopped wearing heels in the name of comfort is when the Russian women started wearing even more sexy and fashionable heels.
And American woman think is is acceptable to wear "flip flops" outside the house.

It's not? Last I checked, they were perfectly fine - especially at the beach. Who wants sand in their shoes?

American men do the same! In fact, foreigners, especially the kinds you just LOVE to give props to, mock American male dress as well. I have spoken to many foreign women and men, and they say American men tend to dress childish, and I agree with them. Some are stuck wearing what they wore in their early 20's to their late 20's and beyond!

I agree with henry1 to an extent. Women in America, not all, but many, have been hit by a historical wave of feminism that has at times told them that they don't need men, that they don't need to try to look beautiful, etc...and we know the end result.

Quote:
Amy Alkon, a syndicated advice columnist (advicegoddess.com), says that women should forget about bra-burning and gender equality and get back to their vanity mirrors. Feminist imperatives to ditch our efforts at appearance are damaging and counterproductive, she says, concluding that “like knowledge, beauty is power.” Alkon’s argument isn’t anything new; we’re just a little surprised to see it in Psychology Today. She refers to psychological studies insofar as they guide our efforts to look pretty (studies show that men like to see women’s waists, she says, so we should cinch our belts and emphasize our hourglass figures), but otherwise her argument is basically philosophical. Looks matter, she says. They increase our range of opportunities in several spheres of life, so while we shouldn’t quit school or stop reading the newspaper, we shouldn’t stop going to the salon or plucking our eyebrows, either:

… A healthy approach to beauty is neither pretending it’s unnecessary or unimportant nor making it important beyond all else. By being honest about it, we help women make informed decisions about how much effort to put into their appearance — or accept the opportunity costs of going ungroomed.

Quote:
Complaining that men want beautiful women is like complaining that you have to tuck cheese into your mousetrap and not a copy of the Financial Times of London.

Looks are important to men. This isn’t because men are shallow, disgusting pigs, but because they’re hard-wired to want the women best equipped to pass on their genes. What men consider beautiful — like youth, clear skin, long shiny hair and an hourglass figure — are indicators that a woman is healthy and fertile. Despite piles of data from David Buss and other evolutionary psychologists showing the male priority for female beauty to be pretty universal across time, cultures and borders, many feminists insist looks aren’t important or shouldn’t be; that men only go for the hotties because they’re brainwashed by the media

Sounds more like flirting to me henry.

And no sense in trying to convince others that American women have lost the art of charm. Unless one were to look into the past and other cultures (such as the French) there really is no way to compare and most people just do not care about the past or other cultures or comparing.

Of course many American woman have lost their style. A woman who 'prefer sneakers, jeans, and tees' and expect men to still be 'pining' for them is testament to this. Perhaps some men settle for this but we know what men pine for since we are visually oriented...besides having a good personality and mind we also want something that takes care of themselves and everyone of any shape or size can look better if they put in the effort with their clothes and general appearance. Sneakers, jeans, and tees everyday does not cut it and women who have a more varied wardrobe have the advantage.

Of course no one should make their appearance their only focus but no one should neglect it either then expect others to approve.
