Blindingly white (sometimes almost blue) teeth? no. it looks ridiculous.
I've noticed that too. When people go overboard their teeth take on a blue cast.

All things in moderation!

I wouldn't say it's a bad thing. Too much dental hygiene? I will admit it does look artificial, but it doesn't bother me. I used to work with a girl who had pearly white teeth and claimed she didn't use any whiteners, no one believed her. But what's the worst people can say about you, your teeth are too clean?

What's funny is I notice this more and more on television. If you watch the news today as opposed to news 20 years ago there's a big difference. Today's news anchors are all "beautiful people" with perfect white teeth and movie star good looks.

I don't know that I would equate over-bleaching with dental hygiene....

Note to self:

straight teeth, white teeth = not human.

Hm.

The point is, your average yuck-mouth isn't going to be bleaching their teeth. They are putting forth an effort, regardless if it's all for vanity or health.

Except, I believe I've read that over-bleaching can actually damage your teeth....

You can tell when somone has gone overboard with the bleaching or went for the "hollywood smile" when getting caps, dentures or veneers. It's looks silly and I can't get past knowing it's fake. I guess some people look in the mirror and like what they see, but in my mind I'm thinking otherwise.

It's always better to only improve things within the boundries of "natural", but there are folks who really want to look fake. Fake boobs, fake tans, fake teeth. I don't know why.

My dentist told me bleaching as well as bonding would make the teeth more sensitive and since I already have sensitive teeth he told me no way would he attempt it on me. I feel really self conscience about my teeth because I have fluorodosis (sp?) which causes streaks on teeth. Then I was on a lengthy course of doxycycline a couple years ago that further stained my teeth. I actually don't even drink coffee, but my teeth are really stained.

Please, don't confuse the dental hygiene with over-bleaching
