Since we hear that women over 35 shouldn't wear miniskirts, what exactly is the definition of one? Above the knees? Shorter than where your fingertips are with your hand at your side? What?

My definition of a mini skirt: shorter than where your fingertips are with your hand at your side.

Back in the 70's, when I was wearing them, my school defined the as anything more that 4"-6" above your knee. I got sent home more than once for breaking that rule because my legs are very long. These days that seem puritanical.

I think that's the key. It's all about ratio and proportion.

The no-mini skirts rule is sort of arcane anyways. It really does depend upon the shape of and the tone of your legs.

Sit down. Look at your knees, then look at your crotch (sorry ) draw a line ~ half-way up the middle. Anything at or above the half-way point usually falls into the "mini" catagory. Many women find that it is most flattering to have the skirt fall at a "narrow" part of the leg. That can be above the knee, at the knee, or slightly below the calf (think 40's pencil skirts).

p.s. for the 30+ plus ladies who want to wear short skirts: don't forget to check the BACK VIEW. A three-way mirror is your friend.
