Hip-hop fashion is okay, but on other people. I tried dressing like that myself, but couldn't. It just isn't me, and I don't feel the need to dress like that b/c it seems EVERYONE ELSE in my demographic wants that style. It has become too commercialized. I like being the odd one out.

I'm basically asking for you to give your opinion on that particular genre of fashion commonly associated African-American/urban youth and young adults. Keep in mind that hip-hop fashion is MORE than just sagging, so I'm not asking about that

It generally includes popular items such as baseball caps, head rags, loose-fitting denim jeans, large t-shirts with elaborate designs often including bold lettering, polo shirts, hooded sweatshirts, colorful sneakers, loafers, sportswear, designer sunglasses, gold jewelry (to include large earrings for women), etc.....these items have generally remained popular within the culture for years, so I'm not going into detail about several small trends that have came and went over time

So my question is how do you feel about this style of dress? Is it commonplace where you live? Are there some aspects you like about, but others not as much?
The hip hop look gets a bad name for one reason!!

Hip hop has 4 main parts, the visual, the moves, the rhyme & the beat...Graffiti is the visual, may be some on the pants, the shirt the caps...Graffiti on gear is always fly to me especially on women because it involes so many colors and designs.

Next you have the movement, the B Boy, the stepper, the dancer they need something they can get loose in. Like the Addias, Nike or Puma track suits & the kicks to match...no jewelry cause it messes up the movement. Maybe a ballcap. Denin isnt good for this part of hip hop its too rough. This group of hip hop clothing is fabric based. Nylon, swede, light cotton, very soft loose fitting material.

Next comes the beat provided by the DJ types. Mostly a mixture of the other 3 aspects of hip hop, mixing the graffiti clothes, with the loose fitting material the B-Boys wear, you can work in Denin as well. Not too flashy Headphones is a most....and not those earbuds, some fly headsets is a great assessory. Again pants can be track warmers or denin.

Last and most hated by me!! THE STUPID RAPPERS AND WANNA BE RAPPERS!! this is the part of hip hop society hates the most. Too much jewelry, sagging pants, gold fronts, overboard with tattoes, dumb long tshirts (no art no graffiti no branding), way too baggy pants, just way too extra...the part of hip hop that makes me wish I wasnt black so I wont be lumped in with Mc Couchie Duchie and the people who dress and act like him...The rapper look is the one the followers try so hard to immitate, even now the stupid RAPPER look is being blended with the rockstar thing. Very lame, very unoriginal way too much. I understand why white people hate it, laugh when any race does it. Corny, stupid, gay(no homo)...just man these guys make the other heads look so bad. Keep it simple yet fly.

That my take on Hip Hop style, The proper way to be fly and wanksta way to be lame.

mmm, not really. nowadays, the higher end fashions that many celebrities wear are practically duplicated and sold in more affordable outlets, allowing them to achieve that "look"

as far as "hard core rap" dress goes, most of it is more closely associated to the elements of strict hip-hop culture (the clothes you go buy at the neighborhood "street-wear" store)...versus the more hipster/alternative styles which often represent the crossover into other markets. that's the point i'm trying to make
You lost me. Hip hop is about being creative with the look, something we barely see anymore. Common & 3000 are not really alternative. They are just mature and still very hip hop in dress. Even when they both came out they looked like their peers then out grew it. 3000 in a Braves jersey and a kangol was hip hop, just like his slacks and colorful shirts is still hip hop. Diddy & Jay Z have that executive hip hop look, but its still hip hop & fly. Common is like a younger version of Russell Simmons as far as dress game. All mentioned styles are more needed in hip hop fashion less of the unorganized goon look that unfortunately dominates how cats dress.

Can you blame them?? The look & bad bahavior go hand in hand. The Rapper Look...is the one they see & hear about in the news...When the last time a great DJ went to jail? Fashion is like the new Graffiti, when the last time a hip hop fashion designer went to jail or was caught with unregistered guns?? Its those stupid RAPPER types that make everyone affliated with hip hop culture look bad, so I dont blame people for voting negatively.

Hip Hop Fashion is at the very essence of what American clothing is all about. Designers get their Inspiration, Innovation, creativity, individuality etc. from the day to day folk and their lives, dreams and aspirations.. without that what they end up creating is just well ......clothing. So with that being said, how can it not be considered FASHION?
