I visited years back, like 2007 or when the economy was in full swing, have things changed much since then? Is the economy accelerating or the reverse?

Thanks in advance for your post.

It seems like the Benton County/Rogers area has rebounded well. There has been steady growth in retail/restaurant in the past couple of years. PF Chang's, Cabela's, and several other national well-known retailers have opened in in the past 3 years in Rogers. Its doing as well as anyplace in the country, and probably better than most.

Seems healthy to me. I travel frequently and it seems we have more "dirt turning" than anywhere I go - even big cities. Lots of new buildings in Rogers and surrounding areas...

NWA was very lucky, even during the height of the recession the economy was pretty strong and the job market the same. I don't think we ever had unemployment above about 7.5. I know that is high, but compared to much of the country it was low. Like everywhere the housing market suffered the mos. I am sure our house depreciated at least 20% and is just now coming back. We are not planning on moving anytime soon, I just hope when the times comes the value is, at least what it was in 2008.

That's all great news to hear, it's always good to hear that a city's economy appears to be recession proof. What is causing this boom anyways? I always assumed Wal-Mart was the reason for the boom, but that's probably a absurd assumption. Lol

Wal-Mart is the biggest jobs driver. The nature of Wal-Mart's business model makes the area attractive to lots of companies and startups related to the retail giant.

So there are lots of people who work for Wal-Mart, and then probably three times as many who work for businesses that service Wal-Mart, or large companies that sells product to Wal-Mart.

There are other large employers here, too.

The University of Arkansas in Fayetteville has grown rapidly since I have moved here, from around 17k students up to around 25k. It seems like there is always construction happening on the campus or in the central Fayetteville area.

and don't forget to mention the campus is beautiful. It really is impressive. I know that is what sold our granddaughter on attending U of A, she just thought the entrance was what a college is supposed to look like, I just hope they don't ruin it when they do so many add-ons. I have seen that happen to so many campuses.

New, in what way? We still have unemployment lower than the national average and home sales are up to about the same level as 2008, just before the bottom fell our of real estate. There is constant new construction, not just homes but small businesses.

Bet you a lot of that growth is kids from Texas. Our 10% rule has made it so difficult for high-achieving suburban students to be admitted to our flagship universities that OU, Arkansas, and even 'Bama have been wooing them with financial aid/scholarships to leave the state and many take them up on that. Can't say I blame them.
