i everyone! I am moving to Bella Vista in either September or October. I wanted to start investigating my options as I have never moved long distance before. For those of you who have moved to NWA can you tell me your experiences with pods vs. Moving companies-prices, how your things fared after the move. I know with the pods I would have to hire someone to help pack and unload-I'm 57 with a bad back

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts-I can't wait to get there!!!

Debbi

I have no experience with pods. If you are moving to an homeowners association in Bella Vista, I'd advice you checking out its rules and regulations. Many associations today do not allow pods.

Have you considered U-Pack / ABF freight? We used ABF for a cross country move with four months storage for a large household. The company drops off a 28' trailer which you then load yourself. You can also hire a local team or go through the company as we did. They pick up trailer and store it until you tell them to deliver. Everything went as promised. Great local crews on both ends. Price was very close to quote - we needed 2 extra feet of trailer space and more boxes than estimated. Cost was less than half compared to traditional national mover quote. Very little breakage - one rubbed end table and a cracked dresser mirror. No doubt I will use them again.

There is a lot of discussion of the various options on the moving forum.

Thanks woodguy for posting about U-Pack. After I hit post, I thought of U-Pack. Again, the OP will want to be aware of any restrictions in a POA if the UPack container is to be left overnight, etc

Guys-I am a single lady and it would be hard to find someone to help me pack-I know that is the much cheaper route but it won't work for me. But thanks for the suggestion.

I'm a single guy with no friends in the area so I was having the same issue. I used MovingHelp.com and they provided a crew to help me load and unload a Uhaul. They were professional, insured and did everything real quick (they had a 2 hour minimum and knew it wouldn't take that long so they wanted to get done quick). They packed everything really well and overall I'd do it again in a heart beat!

Look under the root city-data forum for 'general moving issues' It's a good forum.

As for help packing, you can go through U-Pack for crews on both ends. It's all paid on one bill just like the full service movers. It just cost less than half.

You might try Angies List to find some good moving companies. I know I signed up for apartmentguide.com and they asked if I wanted to be put on a list to be contacted by moving companies. I got like 20 calls from them, some were very nice.

I ended up deciding on getting a Penske truck (I'm single and live with my mother so I don't have much) because they have unlimited mileage. I noticed that Uhaul has something similar to PODS now as well.
