Please move to Newton County and open a "Gumbo Shoppe" in Jasper....we go there frequently and my brother is actually looking for a "camp" in that area, and I'd love to be able to get a good bowl of gumbo while there! Lots of people from Louisiana go there to canoe and hike, and a lot of the people who live in the mountains there are from "somewheres else" as Andy and Barney would say, so you would be accepted eventually, once you found some like-minded people.

The only place I ever got stared at in an unfriendly manner was at the gas station/convenience store in Kingston. Cute, cute little town out in the middle of beautiful nowhere. I/my mom have met people in Kingston who were very friendly also, though.

If I were younger I'd be doing what you want to do (small homestead, bees, chickens, goats, raised-bed gardens, etc. I love Mother Earth News also, even though I'm not a "liberal"). I'm too old for all that now, but I still like to read about it.

Hurricanes....can you believe that when Gustav (I believe it was) came through it actually went through Arkansas and over my mom's cabin (Cass area)? Our cabin neighbors said it got pretty windy.

Luvvarkansas...I'm hoping that we sell our place soon so we CAN get up there. And yes, my wife will open a small lil momsy place that will serve gumbo, fricasse, sauce piquant, baked goods...getting you hungry? I know I am! Lol I'm at work as I write this. Gone from home 24 hours at a time. And I'm missing her cooking! Lol That area sounds great because we love all those outdoor activities. I'm not "liberal" either lol But yes they have great articles and tips. When and once we are settled in, you would be welcome to come check out the place and activities going on with animals. Even help if you'd like. We won't over work you! Haha. Just so you could experience it. (And the cooking, and yes, a gumbo if you insist. I know we'll be happy to oblige!) I definitely won't hold the looks that we received at gas station personal. I can understand about people being, wary(?) about strangers. I believe it about Gustav. Back in 05, we were in White Hall, Ark.when Rita struck Cameron, LA. We were at the hotel and I think it was a day, maybe? that Rita went through the area there as well. I guess we'll just have to worry about possible tornados. Well, Liz, my wife wants to see one anyway. We like adventures, and she wants to go do a storm chase tour. Yes, she's crazy lol..She never been through one. I been through a few, and that's something I don't care to experience again. Well I gotta get back to work. Thank you for replying! Have a great day!

I hadn't though about SWMo, but you are right. In fact one of our favorite places to get our summer produce for canning is a farm in SW MO. only a few miles from Pea Ridge and a beautiful drive. It is about 45 minutes from where we live.
