I live in Springdale and the Walmart on Robinson/Thompson is the bastard child of Northwest Arkansas. I will say most the other Walmarts and Sams going north of here are great though. I am wondering how Cabellas will change since they were bought out by Bass Pro but it might be a good thing. We have a lot of great things similar to those other larger metros. Hard to complain about much, the restaurant scene is catching up but not to the level of some of the other metros I've been. All in all I think it is a great place to raise a family and you can adjust fairly quickly.

I guess we all see things differently; you mention the restaurant scene: I can't imagine any metro area the size of NWA with more selections in dining. We have everything from fast food dining to upscale like Ruth Chris and we have outstanding independently owned restaurants. Mr Tees in Rogers, Crystal bridges, many on the square in Bentonville, Mermaids in Fayetteville just to mention a few.

We tried to get into Hugo's after seeing the Christmas square, but would have needed a shoe-horn to get into the place. Settled for one of our favorite places when we are here in Houston- Red Robin. The people at the F'ville restaurant were great, and the food good as always.

I've lived (recently) in Saint Louis, Orlando, and Pittsburgh and my dad lives in KC. NWA reminds me of the suburbs of each of those cities (think Lee's Summit), but a lot nicer and safer. If you don't spend a lot of time in downtown KC you won't even really miss much. We are also in market for the KC professional teams, so there won't even be difficultly continuing to follow the Royals and the Chiefs if sports are your thing.

The Naturals are the CK Royals AA farm club, it is fun to watch the young men start here,, then many, in a year or two are playing for KC.

I live in Orlando currently but am moving to Fayetteville in February for a job at U of A.

What can you tell me about the weather? Any severe tornados?

Areas you'd recommend to buy a house? Areas you wouldn't recommend?

We have a daughter who lives in Windermere. I love that place; wouldn't want to live in Florida, too humid, but boy that area is pretty: of course it can get pretty busy as well. I will let others answer you about where to buy in Fayetteville, but as for the weather:

no more chance of severe tornados than hurricanes in Orlando. In fact we probably have less chance. winters can be cold, possible icy or snowy but we haven't had much in the past 3 years; the last bad year was Jan and Feb of 2014. Our summers are cooler than the Atlantic coast and not as humid, but there is still some pretty crappy days and nights. Again, we have had exceptionally nice summer the past few years.
