After being hit by snow and below freezing temperatures in my motorhome in Spearfish, SD I got to thinking how bad are the winters in the NWA area. I know we will be staying in our motorhome while looking for a new home. I know we can handle a few days of it, but how long will a snow/freezing weather front last there? I am not a fan of cold weather, but I have to take the bad with the good by moving there.

I can't remember, in the 12 plus years we have lived here any weather related problems lasting more than maybe, 3 or 4 days. Yes, we will from time to time have a bad freeze storm and they can be pretty hard to handle for a couple of days. Snow days are usually not more then a few in a row and even weather below, say 25 degrees rarely last more than a few days or so. Now, don't get me wrong we often see nights in the teens from early DEc until late Feb, but this is not a common event.

Looks like you're on the Gulf Coast.
NWA won't be like that, but nothing remotely like Spearfish either. If you're familiar with northern Alabama or better yet central Tennessee, NWA would be more similar to those.
A person would have to be pretty averse to cold weather to find any place in Arkansas to be too cold.
Personally, the Black Hills of South Dakota are on a short list of places we'd relocate to if and when that happens again, but we're weird like that.

What is the key factor that makes some homes property taxes higher than other homes in Bella Vista? I am referring to homes about the same price, but some are close to $2,000 and others are half that.

We are meeting with a real estate agent this weeks to see what our money will buy.

We are looking at a few houses today while Hurricane Sally is at our door step in Elberta, Alabama. Our house is built by hurricane standards, but who knows. The power has been off most of the night there and it will be off for a while. We have already told our neighbors before the freezer full of meat spoils take it out and cook it. We are glad we are not there, but in a small way we wish we was to take care of any that may take place.

From a standpoint of if all hell breaks lose across the country being close to my brother is a great move. He was a gun dealer for a while and he has a ton of guns and ammo. Their property is along a creek and they have always kept 6 months of food and water on hand.

Understand totally, my wife is from the New Orleans area and her family and friends have had a rough time the last few months. Seems to be a hurricane magnet lately. Good luck with matters at home and your upcoming move to a new one. Being from Arkansas I may be a little biased but I believe you could not pick a better state to live in, especially with what is happening around us now. Lots and homes here have been selling like crazy within the past few months, I think our little secret is no longer.

My wife just talked to one of our neighbors and the eye is right on top of them. Several of the neighbors had leaks in their houses. Two of our neighbors will go into our house today to check for leaks.

Due to the state of this country right now moving closer to my brother would be a great move if all hell breaks lose. He was a gun dealer at one time and he has a ton of guns and ammo. His property is along a creek and they have been keeping food, water, fuel, etc. on hand to last for 6 months.
