You'll have to scroll down a bit to see the data. But this is interesting.

Southern markets are also in very high demand when it comes to renting in metro areas that have less than 20,000 rental apartments. To that extent, the under-supplied Fayetteville, AR is the most competitive small market. Fueled by Walmart’s huge footprint in northwest Arkansas, the city has seen a job boom during the past several years, but the growing number of renters have extremely limited options to choose from.

In addition, almost 80% of the renters who were lucky enough to secure an apartment in the past decided not to move in the first part of the year. As a result, Fayetteville apartments get snatched in two weeks, with no less than 22 people competing for a rental here.

Interesting. I own a two unit rental in Bentonville and have had 0 trouble finding extremely well qualified renters willing to pay top dollar. When a tenant moved out last March, it only took me 18 days to get another great tenant in there at a significantly higher rate.

I wish I owned more, but am content with what I have.

I wonder if local zoning/politics prevents developers from meeting demand in Fayetteville, or if it's largely a matter of unfavorable terrain. Bentonville and Rogers are building, building, building.

Some places have it worse than others, but it’s a national problem.
We’re seeing the same things here in a non-growth midwestern town.
I’m eager for real estate and rental markets to crash and burn. Housing is a basic need and should never be the burden that it is now.
Bring on the days where landlords beg people to rent their crap. It’s sad when people feel like they have to win some dating game in order to secure a place to live.

How is Tulsa even on this list? It says small markets with under 20,000 apartments but Tulsa has over 50,000 apartments.
