History of Classical Russian Ballet goes back to 1700ies.
It has been developed to perfection and probably peaked around 60-70ies of the previous century, (or so I think.)
To those of you who are interested in history of Russian ballet, you can read it here,
History of Russian Ballet

I just wanted to post videos of few outstanding dancers from old(er) times.

I'll start from this lovely dancing pair performing in Bolshoi Theater in Moscow - the one that you see at the opening, the theater of the best ballet in the world.
So here is Yekaterina ( Kate) Maximova and Vladimir Vassiliev back in...1979 I believe.

YouTube -

This is the same pair in unforgettable "Spartacus" of Bolshoi ( different scenes from the ballet)

...and speaking about Spartacus, this is yet another outstanding performance of Maris Liepa; the best Crassus ever.

This scene from " Legend of Love" is rather rare and unusual; this is Maris Liepa again, apparently in the beginning of his career, while Maya Plisetskaya is already an established icon.

...and this is Maya Plisetskay again, in "Dying Swan" ( by Camille Saint-Saëns)

Thanks Erasure! Lovely videos....and Dying Swan always makes me ...it is so beautiful. I have not seen video of these dancers....very nice.

MANY years ago I was a dancer and cherish those years. I tend to get teary at performances, though...especially if I had danced in that particular one...ie can't make it through Nutcracker without tissues .

Enjoyed your post! gbh

You are most definitely welcome - I've enjoyed myself going through these old videos.
I might post some more on Russian classical ballet ( and *non-classical* dance also,) if I find other interesting videos.

Who is the author of the book?
( But before you'll answer, I'll post couple more scenes from the well-known "Nutcracker" and "The Swan Lake" of course.

Mariinsky Theater ( St. Petersburg

... and this is Bolshoi Theater again, famous pas de quatre from the "Swan Lake"

And this is Russian non-classical ballet. ( This particular dance group has been around for the last... 100 years or so I think...)))
They perform dances from all over the world, but first - this is " Russian dance" of course;

YouTube - The Moiseyev Dance Company

Same dancers, music was written by yet another classical Russian composer, M. Glinka (Jota Aragonesa)
