Abstract Flower Paintings take advantage of the artist freedom to use lines, shapes, and colors independent of flowers actual shape and color. While floral art is more associated with impressionism and realism, abstract works have appeared more in collections and galleries.
The increase in technologies has also given artist the ability to experiment with new techniques, and flower paintings make good subjects for such works. Computer graphics and graphic design now enable artists to push the limits of abstract art even further, and experiment with more shapes and colors quicker and faster before putting paint on canvas. This has given abstract hard new life.

I liked Murakami's Superflat schema right away, even the playful pop patterns that saturated the market.

Superflat

He has made some other wonderful organic images, like Delicate Monsters (click thumbnail below):

and he's now doing some interesting prints in a more developed style:

Georgia OKeefe probably made some of the most famous abstract flower images:

I've also seen quite a bit of new art that abstracts natural fractals - not necessarily flowers, though many flowers are fractals
