...only it wasn't a stain.

Cleaning woman in Germany damages $1.1 million sculpture by scrubbing off ‘rain puddle’ - The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/europe/german-cleaner-destroys-sculpture-worth-11-million-by-scrubbing-off-rain-puddle/2011/11/04/gIQAOBdmlM_story.html - broken link)

I can't blame the poor lady too much. I might have hauled the whole thing to the museum's dumpster thinking it was leftover construction material.

Ouch.

I've read of several accidents - they just make you cringe. One was a collector who enthusiastically put his elbow through a Picasso at his own dinner party.

One can only be Duchampian about it I suppose

I just saw what I think was an old clip of Kelly Osbourne talking about how their cleaning lady peeled a sticker off an Andy Warhol piece her mother owned, thus reducing the value.

Guess if you're going to collect expensive art, it might be worth it to get your cleaning staff enrolled in an art history class!
