That's pretty darn cool. As a 37 year veteran of the drywall taping industry my first question was, why the *%#@ didn't I think of that!

Nice, but drywall compound can crack and shrink pretty badly if applied thick. After a couple of years it might not look all that good.

A clear latex sealer can be sprayed over it (using an airless paint sprayer) to protect and preserve the work.
