Default Anyone here master mosaic'ers?

I'm thinking of doing a mosaic on the outside of a terra cotta flower pot. I've done mosaics before, that part I'm good with, but this pot would be used for potting plants. What are some ideas for waterproofing the pot - before doing the mosaic bit - so that the moisture doesn't seep through and ruin the mosaic?

Hi haggardhouseelf,.....I am no master but I recently started doing mosaics, love it, but sorry I am not sure about the flower pot. I know thay you can buy terra cotta pot sealer, it come s in a spray can. I can't tell you how well it works. There is a place called Garden Web that offers many topics of discussion from flowers to computers to kitchen remodeling to pets and yes they have a forum for stained glass and mosaics...it is mostly mosaic artists that offer help and advice as well as showing pictures of their work. Have you heard of it? Check it out and ask your question there, very nice people. Good Luck

Hey Pink... thanks for that link and the response. I'll definitely go check that website out - sounds cool!

So far I've just done a few coats of mod podge on the inside and outside of the terra cotta pots to seal them. I had three different kinds of mod podge (one matte, one glossy, and one "hard coat") and they all say that they can be used as sealers... so we'll see! Before I mosaic them, I was going to let them sort of set for a week or two, then fill them up with dirt and a plant... and see how they do. If the mod podge seems to be working... then I'll mosaic them!

There's an "outdoor" mod podge that I found online, but I couldn't find here at the few places I checked out (local hardware stores, local craft stores...) I will probably end up ordering some though. On one website I found, it said you could use the outdoor mod podge to make these beautiful terra cotta flower pot bird baths and fountains! That would be a fun project!
