I saw this eerie painting, years ago, at the Nelson-Atkins in Kansas City. Is it still there? Or, where is it?

Eerie is right! Goya-ish.... permanent collections of his works and past exhibits are listed here:

Thank you, Delusianne and Tantalust.

Odd Nerdrum: Works took me right to the painting, the Seed Protectors. I really wanted to re-visit, so I very much appreciate your responses.

Also, in each case, enjoyed reading about the issue of Kitsch on this level as my own work is sometimes accused thereof. But, I work to explore and tell about it, visually, so the outcome is what it is.

Nerdrum's work is nightmarish, maybe apocolyptic??? But, I can't quit looking............What a mind!!

I saw at Tantalust's linked site that ON has written about Kitsch and described his own work as Kitsch, but I tend to think of Kitsch as Jeff Koons territory and was afraid ON might be denigrating his own work, so I didnt read the essay(s).

(love J Koons btw )

I did read at least an interview with Nerdrum and can't recall what his reasoning was, but I doubt that any other art critic would describe what he does as "kitsch." At least I've never read such.

As I understand kitsch, it is art that cannot be ruled fine art as it is vulgar or sentimental. ???

If this definition holds up, then where is OD in all this? Did he feel that he was vulgar? Hardly sentimental.
