Default Your favorite women artists?

When speaking of artists we mostly hear of men. Women also create art but don't get as much recognition.
Many people know of Frida Kahlo and Georgia O'Keefe. But there are many more. Recently I discovered the works of Laurie Lipton. She makes some of the most amazing drawings I've seen.

I think her works are absolutely top class, both in structure and idea. I like unusual art.

A few of my favorites (not just female, but as artists in general) include:

Helen Frankenthaler
Eva Hesse
Lee Krasner
Louise Nevelson

I really need to get out and see more contemporary stuff.
I know I'm not such a big fan of say, Judy Chicago or Jenny Holzer. I know there must be fabulous women artists out there working today, but I am kind of removed from the art world at this point in time.

What about that woman from the Lionel Ritchie video "Hello"?
Haha, just kidding (: My favorite female artist is Berthe Morisot.

Tamara de Lemp i c k a ( what on earth is wrong with someone's name that CD puts stars rather than the name???) - Art Deco painting at its best. Her paintings "in the flesh" so to speak are extraordinarily impressive and potent.

lem***** photos - Google Search

Camille Claudel
Berthe Morisot
Kate Greenaway ( wonderful children's book illustrator)

A Photographer I saw an exhibition of at the "Isabella Stewart Gardner" museum in Boston years ago whose name I sadly was unable to remember. Her photographs were simply superb, using photo-montage to make a "dream-world" of images. She managed to capture what dreams are about in a stunning visual way. I contacted the Museum to ask about it and they never responded. She shall remain a mystery forever more...

Good choice for historic women artists.

I also like the works of Artemisia Gentileschi:

I like Cindy Sherman. She has interesting ideas her work does not seem 'forced' or contrived. They speak her personality and it isn't pretentious like a lot of stuff out there today.

Sarah Biffin - Maybe more as a neat story than as an artist, but she wasn't bad.
Tamara de Lempi**a (I have no idea what was deemed a bad word here.)
Grandma Moses
Georgia O'Keefe
Remedios Varo
