Fish - pets or hobby?

Fishes like pacu, oscar cichlids are more like pets.

I have blood parrots and they're pets to me. They like my daughter best, and when they see her approach the tank, they get excited and swim up to the glass. I had convict cichlids and they definitely recognized me. The male used to flare his gills and nip at me whenever I cleaned the tank.

I see fishkeeping more as a hobby as opposed to keeping a dog or cat, which I consider as true pets. The difference is that I have no interaction with the fish other than feeding time, whereas with a dog or cat, it's much more natural to have interaction with them.
