looks like a nice healthy crowntail to me.
crowntail can loose color on their tips, typically when stressed, once they relax again the color comes in (this also happens to the body and is common in any number of fish when stressed)

in generall his color looks good, deep and bright, finnage is nice and full, no signs of fin rot, nothign around the gills that says to worry...

id say nice little betta

He's beautiful! Crowntails are supposed to have "raggedy" looking fins, totally normal. I like his coloring, it's very similar to my betta. Is that a plastic plant in his tank, though? Just be careful if it is, sharp edges can rip a betta's fins. I use silk or live plants in my betta's tank.

I'm not one to go out of my way to complement someone's fish - but I have to agree on this!

We once had a beta that would come to the top of the tank when you came by - not to be fed, but to get a back rub!
