My wife and I are from the pacific NW and used to see squirels all over the place in the fall. I live in phoenix now, and my wife want to go up to Flagg, and she mentioned that we have not seen a single squirel in Phoenix (no duh). ANyway, I know she misses them, so I thought I might ask if they are out and about in the flagstaff area, and where to find a multitude of them?

Thanks for you help

If you go out to Buffalo Park, you might see some, also in the treed areas around City Hall, perhaps. The other place to see them is in the Town Square in Prescott, around the old courthouse. Lots of them at the South Rim at the Canyon, when you make the trip up there.

Arizona has its own species of squirrel. AZ gray squirrels are found at 5-6000 feet where there are more oaks and walnut trees. Another spot I have seen many is Walnut Canyon National Monument east of Flag off I40. The one I see the most of up north is called Abert's Squirrel. They live in the ponderosa forests and have distinctive tufts on their ears. More info:

That's a great place to visit anyway (whther you are looking for squirrels or not).

Good point. There are squirrels in Encanto Park, probably other grassy parks like that as well.

Well, thought I saw some there. Maybe they were roof rats.
