Hi, I'm a 34 year old single male from the east coast considering some job openings currently in my field and one happens to be in Flagstaff. I've already had to move around a bit for work and ideally I'd like to be in a larger urban area since in my experience, at least in the east, smaller cities and towns are more difficult places to settle in and meet people if you aren't from the area. So I'm wondering in people's opinion would this be a good place for me? I do enjoy the outdoors and that and the climate does appeal to me. I do also see they have some meetup groups that seem to be geared toward young people. Still unsure though so some input on here would be very helpful. Thanks!

lots of 30-somethings in Flag....very outdoor-oriented town....small but thriving downtown area (on both sides of the tracks!).....summer tourists and traffic

be aware of relatively high housing costs in Flag, cold (though usually sunny) winters, no daylight savings time observed here, somewhat liberal rep in Flag (for Arizona), fairly strong NAU influence in parts of town....

your potential job should be pretty high-paying to be able to support yourself.....

could be good for you if you put yourself out there in the meetups and all that.....just gotta check those housing costs and make sure the job will support that

Thanks for the info! I'm not too worried about housing costs...it's a well paying job. Just looking to move up in my career and hopefully to a place that's more suited for me than where I am now. I'm currently in a small town rural area where the dating scene is essentially non existent for anyone over 22 or so as it's very much a kid and family oriented area.

Flagstaff is a small town. Small town = fewer dating opportunities. It's about numbers.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, that's the impression that I had. Probably better than where I am now but not exactly what I'm looking for.

Flagstaff is a great small city. It's not for everyone, but I love it.

If you enjoy the outdoors, the location is very hard to beat, anywhere. Whether you like biking (road or mountain), skiing, hiking, riding quads or dirt bikes, wildlife--pretty much anything short of open water boating or sitting on a beach--it's there. What's even better is, if it's too cold or snowy to do something outdoors in Flagstaff, you can just drive down the road to Sedona. The Grand Canyon is a short distance away. Actually, a totally different climate is a short distance away.

The thing you have to keep in mind is that almost a third of its population is students. That keeps it from getting too stodgy, but it also means that a lot of things are geared toward younger people, and they rotate in and out every 4 years. I don't know how it is for dating, but as someone already mentioned, it's not a big town, so your options won't be nearly what they would be in a bigger city.

The university also keeps Flagstaff from getting too wacky or insular like some small towns can.

It's not the place for people who like to spend time shopping, going to games, and other things that are better in major metropolitan areas. There is quite a bit of shopping for a city of its size, because there is literally nothing around it. But it's not going to rival a big metropolitan area or anything like that. It has a nice downtown area with different non-chain bars, restaurants, and stores, plus a very ample array of chain restaurants. The airport has jet service (to Phoenix, with connections pretty much everywhere from there).

IMO, it has an ideal mixture of a lot of things, without being too big of a city. It hasn't been destroyed by a massive influx of outsiders, at least not yet.

Actually, I am applying for a job in Flagstaff and a home just north of Williams. Both sound just what I am looking for. The manufactured home has 1,032 sq.ft. with a nice kitchen/nook area. The rent is $750 and the great thing is: they take pets. We have two dogs and two cats and so need accomodations for them. This home has one acre of land and is right next to the Coconino National Forest. Great photo opportunites. Water has to be trucked in but that sounds do-able.

What I was going to say about Flagstaff is there's probably some dating opportunities because of the college. There may be some older people who are actively looking, hard to tell.

What I like about Flagstaff is it's close proximity to the Grand Canyon and Sedona. I love those attractions. We have bikes and the area seems great for biking and also there ought to be hiking spots all over Flagstaff.
