I've provided several suggestions for northern Arizona in this thread so won't re-hash them here. I will encourage you to drive US-89A between Flagstaff and Sedona - it's scenic and less traveled than I-17.

I'd also suggest if you have time to drive US-89A from Prescott/Prescott Valley to Jerome (and then on to Cottonwood/Sedona if you like) - the view of the Mogollon Rim, Sedona, and even the San Francisco Peaks near Flagstaff is quite fantastic.
