This is one thing I like about Flagstaff compared to Phoenix: people up there seem to be more conscious about weather conditions, and the dangers of drought & fires. In the Phoenix area, there's a definite "who cares?" type of attitude when we have these extended periods of unusually warm, dry weather. Too many sun lovers here who only seem to be happy when it's warm & sunny, but complain to the hilt when we get the few cloudy, rainy days (which we desperately need). You should have been here during Super Bowl week when we had a steady light rain for two or three days, and dense fog the morning of Super Bowl Sunday: it was easy to spot the sun freaks because they were the ones who whined & griped the most about the weather. It was pathetic, but kind of humorous at the same time.

Yep, and according to the NWS, this February was predicted to have above normal precipitation throughout southern CA & all of AZ. Well, National Blather Service, where the hell is the precipitation???

That's what I said: feels more like April instead of February. I'm sick of it ... but then again, we can't control Mother Nature.

The peaks are literally right outside my window... It's literally depressing, my view this winter.

Just took that...

My wife is of the opinion that Flagstaff will see no more snow in the month of February. She could be right.

I've got money on one half-decent snow in March in town, but nothing else in Flagstaff-proper for the rest of the season. The mountain might see a few more inches, though, if some precipitation moves our way. It's definitely cold enough out where I am, meaning a few thousand feet up on the mountain it's plenty cold enough for snow.

Looks like a pattern shift is about to kick in. Given the crazy ski slope jet stream this winter, we could get a pretty wet and wild March.

We'll need that to wash some of the egg of my face on this thread!

Interestingly (to me at least) is that the crazy ridge/trough pattern that has cooked us and frozen the east, is retrogressing westward, so we may be in the same zone they were in for the last month or so. How long that will last, I have no idea, but Murch could be as cold and stormy as the last month was warm dry. Oh, wait, I am making predictions again...that worked out so well last time....

We'll just have to see.

March 3 - oops. I just read in the Sun that this storm dumped 15 inches in town and 43 at the Snowbowl.

True to form that March is the heavy snow month.

We got about 2 1/2 feet out where I am, but it's supposed to warm up all weekend.

Actually, I believe that snowbowl got about 5 feet over the last week or ten days. Pretty awesome. I think the base is not about 75".

Unfortunately, it is going to warm up into the high 50s in Flag, so the snow will likely be melting fast.

This is great news for those of us who don't want to see our pine forests burn up. I say bring a few more feet before spring hits! We are now up to ~55" at the airport, which means I am only 80" shy of my predictions....

I'm down in the Valley right now, but took some pics on Wednesday before I left town. I'll see if I can get them uploaded from my iPod tonight.
