We are looking at moving to Flagstaff. We have elementary and High school kids and would like to know if it is a quieter and safer environment compared to Phoenix? Another question is if there is work? My daughter has been given an invitation to enroll in to a very good Charter school in Flagstaff (her name has been on the wait list for more then a year), and I have two weeks to accept or decline the offer.

Any advice would be appreciated.

The major barrier to moving to Flagstaff for most people...employment. Healthcare, Government, NAU or Gore would be your major employers for a livable wage. The other barrier would be housing...much more expensive in Flagstaff than Phoenix Metro.

Good Luck.

Flagstaff is a very nice little city in many ways. Unfortunately, as for a living wage it ranks dead last in the nation - worse than Honolulu. Jobs are not hard to find, but wages are extremely low for a moderately high price housing.

Look up the radio series "Poverty With a View" on the Flagstaff NPR affiliate's website KNAU. It's a bit dated but still very much true.
What school? Hopefully it's not FALA.

Flagstaff is a great town. Especially if one is into outdoor activities. Terrific skiing, hiking, biking, camping, you name it... Mountain activities galore:-) But, the above posters are correct-finding a job can be difficult. Obviously, do your due diligence beforehand. Crime- not bad at all. Very safe town. College students might have a bit too "much" fun on the weekends and have alcohol related incidents. I think the majority of us also had fun in our college days:-)
Great food, good shopping, plenty of car dealerships to maintain your car, if you so wish. Outstanding hospital. Close to GC & Colorado, New Mexico.
Good luck with your move!
