Just looking for a reasonable place to stay while I do a couple things in Sedona for the first time.
Is uptown the ritzy expensive area?
I don't know if Sept is the more expensive time, but it seems like a clean comfy room can't be had for less than $100.
For mid Sept, am I in the expensive season?
I would appreciate a recommendation for something like that. Searching online isn't really telling me exactly what's around me.
Is West Sedona the busy area?
Googling "places to stay in Sedona" doesn't really get anything but expensive hotel ads.
The Best Western in uptown is around $296 a night, which is way out of this working class budget.
Once I get up there, I know I can get the lay of the land and see what I want to do for future trips, but I'm just looking for a general direction to start in.
Thanks for your help

I have stayed here. It was lovely and the staff was great. A short car ride to the downtown/shopping area, and beautiful views of the Red Rocks behind it. Across the street from Pizza Lisa, which is a great place to eat. I'd stay there again. I got a good deal when I booked via Orbitz.

I see it is around $200 a night mid Sept. It was about half that when I went in early May.

Thanks for the suggestion, but $200 is the best they can do.
A little steep for me

If you don't mind staying about 1/2 south of Sedona, check out the Beaver Creek Inn in Lake Montezuma. It's off the main road but it's very nice, quiet and clean. You get a free simple breakfast and they have a room with snacks and movies that you can borrow. Their prices are around the price range of $70-$80/night. I've stayed there twice and will probably go back again!

We have been a few times in Sedona and never paid more than 200$ a night. It was always less.
We stayed one time at the Poco Diablo Resort. They advertise right now 149$ a night. Maybe because it is August. We also stayed at El Portal who is in Tlaqueplaque. You can also visit Sedona without staying over night. It's easy to do in one day from Phoenix.

Stay in cottonwood, 30 min drive, lots of chain hotels without the Sedona pricing.

According to Hotels.com, during mid week the Sedona Village Lodge starts at $69 a night.
The White House Inn also runs $80 a night during September.
Everything else is over $100 except for places in Cottonwood, which is kind of a bland place to stay.
I think SVI is in the VOC, but as far as I'm concerned that's still Sedona.

There's a hotel on the mesa next to Sedona Airport that seems quite reasonably priced to me. Everyone we know who's stayed there raves about it.

I stayed there quite some time ago, but agree with this post.
