I've recently accepted a teaching position with NAU and will be moving to Flagstaff this summer. I currently live in Phoenix and am excited to get out of the heat. I'm not used to snow, so would prefer to live near NAU my first year (and rent) until I am used to the area. Are there apartment complexes within 1-2 miles of NAU that are not all college students and also have working adults? I also have two dogs and a cat so pet friendly is a must. Thank you for any help or assistance!

There are lots of complexes within that distance. The rental market however is very tight. The clientele is probably mostly college students but they will probably refuse to tell you the numbers. In my experience with one complex they do a good job of having rules to avoid unreasonable disturbances and these rules work pretty well.

Pets will cost you extra. Three is a lot.

You might contact the University directly here, sometimes they have temporary housing set aside for visiting professors and such. You might be able to wiggle into one of those places for the first school term since you are new.
