I am trying to locate a park that I visited about 10 years ago, that I believe was in the Sedona area. I remember driving down a long dirt road (red dust everywhere), to a small ranch that I believe was donated to the park service. The guy that originally lived there, lived up against a rock formation. The side of the cliff had ancient writings on the side. I tried Google but had no success. Thanks!

Or maybe Crescent Moon Ranch (owned by the Forest Service)?

The person lived up against the rocks before building a home. He had built a water collection system before building the home and turned it into a ranch. I wish I had taken pictures. From what I remember it was a ways from the main road. I remember petroglyph writings on the cliff walls, maybe beaver creek or v-bar-v?

If you drive Schnebley Hill Road WAY back towards White Horse lake you willpass an old ranch....don't think it's a park, however...?

Thanks all, I think Gretchen B is right, I seem to remember the Forestry Service maintained the site!

Maybe near Palatki ruins or out in the Secret Canyon wilderness? Also maybe the end of Verde Valley School road in the Village of Oak Creek. Maybe along Bill Gray Road?

Most of the red rocks in the beaver creek area are under ancient lake bed deposits due to the faulting that formed the valley, so the roads there arent red dirt for the most part...

If you aren't completely certain it's in teh Sedona area...maybe your thinking of the Lonely Dell Ranch at Lee's Ferry. Dusty red road, ranch cabin at the foot of a huge rock formation...and it's owned by the Park Service.

Oh wait. Duh. You're talking about the V Bar B Heritage site south of Sedona.

Was there water at the park? If there was water, most likely it is Red Rock State Park and the Crescent Moon Ranch. If there was not any water, could be Dry Creek Road you drove on to an area that is maintained by the Nature Conservancy. It was an old ranch that was donated and it does have some pictographs.
