First, you know nothing about me. I am a bit angry about the Sedona situation, you're got that right . But I am not an angry person...you got that wrong. According to friends and family, I am rather gleeful and spread good cheer. I also try to refrain from ad hominem attacks on peoples character as you have done above, especially if I don't not now them. I find people who do this are generally insecure, have thin skin, cannot tolerate differences of opinion without attacking another's character, and are generally immature. I attacked what I percieve to be a problem about Sedona, and you attacked me directly. A BIG DIFFERENCE. Perhaps it is you who are the angry one. I will agree with one item you said however. I did not offer solutions. But I did offer praise to those who did, some off line. Oh...and thank you for reading and analyzing all my posts...I'm flattered!
Well unlike the troll that you are, and post on one specific topic ad nauseum, I am in both the Florida and AZ board contributing, mainly becuase I live in FL, and plan on retiring in AZ. Ooops...sorry...I guess I am going to further clog up the roadways and waterways in AZ when I relocate there-seeing I have used up all the natural resources in Florida and need to move on to consume and consume again.
You're right, I don't know you. From the tone of all your posts, I have arrived at that conclusion. You can conclude what you want from the tone of mine. And, like you said, we are all entitled to our opinions. I find you an egomaniacal, pompous and cantankerous individual. Just my opinion....
I have been to Sedona, granted I don't live there. I didn't find it as distasteful as you did. I am sure the true residents have valid opinions, that I can respect. My opinion was the place was very nice and I enjoyed my visit. I'll be going back again.

Fantasies, such as vortexes which don't exist and are simply another gimmick, as is all the psuedo new age stuff. A chapel that isn't and has never had any religious significance and is just another Sedona souvenir shop. Restaurants that serve the same food as anywhere else but at a premium price. So called "festivals" that are simply the same tired people doing the same tired thing over and over ad nauseum. But hey, look at those beautiful red rocks. That's the message. No rocks and Sedona is not a town anyone would particularly want to visit.
I also believe that many people that have moved here now realize that the beauty of the rocks cannot overcome the shortcomings of the way Sedona is evolving. But they're retired and lock themselves in their gated communities untill the herds have thinned and then spend the better part of the year out of town. Did I mention I watched a bull elk lead his family up and over a mountain early this morning. He would go up a ways, turn around and wait for the rest to catch up at each level. I didn't see any roads, cars, tourists, houses for 4 hours. Poor Sedona Shadow; missed all the good stuff in beautiful downtown Sedona!
Your review will never make it into a tour guide even though much of what you say is true. But for the red rocks, Sedona would be just another town in north central Arizona.

I hope the new age fad ends soon, there are way too many snake oil sellers taking advantage of tourists and unsuspecting locals.

Perhaps you're right Rich.

You on the other hand are very nice..I find you very agreeable, and very nice...you're a swell guy.

You gotta admit though, sometimes cantankerous pulls the stuff out of people....3,559 reads on this post and counting.

We should have a beer next time I'm in AZ.

you know Rich, this thread has gone in ways I didn't exoect. I really need to express something I should have in the original post. Actually, I love Sedona. I love it too much. I went for th first time in 1986 , and feel that my life had changed from going there. i was dealing with alot of issues there. It had been my first trip out the east coast. I was so blown away by Sedona, that I had to go back to make sure I wasn't imaginig nit. I did go back, again and again, and that was the problem, becasue every time I saw changes I didn;t like. but I also realized that by continuing to go back I was becon=ming part of the tourist problem. The point i am trying to make is that it is the SEQUENCE, the metamrpjosis that saddens me. Unless someone has visited Sedona (or Flagstaff, Santa Fe) over two decades like I have, they wouldn't percieve it that way. Sure if I went to Sedona today for the first time, I would think it was beauitiful (like alot of Sedona 'rookies' posted), It is beautiful, but then again, they have not percieved the trend..the trend is downward.

As for solutions..there aren't any. As americans people should go and be and live where they want. I offer no solutions (though there are some who post here like Sedona Shadow who have a greater feel as citizens for possible solutions)

I am just saddened by seeing what was, is no longer, and worse, what is will no longer be. Hell if we can't save the rain forests, what does Sedona matter.

You called me alot of things..troll, egotistical, cantankerous, etc, but Hippie hater? Well that just hurts...I teach Yoga, have slammed back some mean psychotropics, and am a rebellious cantankerous ass. I am a hippie....sheesh.

Default Lets all just take a deep breath

Well.....this thread is all at once entertaining and depressing. The personal attacks back and forth are getting a bit boring and don't accomplish a darn thing.

Motuorg, you also make good points about how everyplace changes. I have said this many times before.

Rich, thanks for coming to Sedona's defence but we all need to calm down.

Sedona Shadow, are you THE Sedona Shadow? You make some very good points but you are just a little harder on Sedona than I am am.

Yes, I am relatively new to Sedona. I have only been here a year. I own a home in West Sedona and yes it is my full time ONE AND ONLY residence. I do see the issues here but I still love it and I don't believe that all is lost. Perhaps I am naive but I still believe that concerned, involved citizens can make a difference.

Everyone posting here is very passionate about their POV. I think, in a way, we all have the same concerns we are just viewing them through different filters.

Well, I've heard it all now.....LOL.....uglification of Sedona is a classic oxymoron! There is nothing ugly about Sedona naturewise or man made. If you want to see ugly, you'll just have to go to places like Detroit, Cleveland etc. and for a shorter trip there is plenty of rundown and trashy places in AZ.

.....
That is the smartest thing said yet.
As bad, crowded and touristy as Sedona has gotten over the years ... It is still one BEAUTIFUL place. Everyone should see it with their own two eyes, not just in pictures. If that means tourists, I'm sorry ... but somethings just aren't the same unless you see it in person and Sedona is one of them.

The tourist should come ... just as they should visit the Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion, Costa Rica, Greece and many other beautiful places on this earth. It's here and it's beautiful. Yes, it's a real bummer when EVERYONE "discovers" the piece of heaven one decides to call home, but that is life and we still have to just get along. The glass can still be half full, you just have to know where to look and what to focus on.

And I thought I was done here...............That poolgirl..............
Get a grip people. Settle down, settle down. I go off into the wilderness for a few hours and this pleasant interlude turns into a free for all. My last post was the definitive interpretation. Nothing more to see here. Move along

PS for poolgirl: I am quite well known in certain circles. You should be able to ascertain what that circle encloses.

Actually I thought it was among the dumber posts. It's amazing how we all see things so differently isn't it.
