Default Looking into moving to Sedona/Oak Creek/Cottonwood Area

Hi Everyone,

My husband and I have no kids and are looking into moving to Arizona. We've been researching Real Estate in the Sedona/Oak Creek/Cottonwood Areas. We have 2 dogs, one of which I do Pet Therapy with, so being near/driving distance to a local hospital would be nice. We'd be moving from the East Coast. Been reading up on the posts and I guess my question is where would the best location be for an acre plus lot with a decent house. My husband and I are not into the night life. We want quiet. We don't care about "shopping" (malls). We just need food and the basics which can be found at a hardware store. A decent restaurant or two, but I LOVE to cook. We'd love to get to know our neighbors, but at the same time, we like our privacy when needed. We've been working our buns off here and it's time to settle down some, although my husband will never stop working. I do volunteer work. Once my other dog is old enough, he will be certified for Pet Therapy too.

We are planning on coming out in May too to check out some houses. So any suggestions on hotels or B&Bs would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much in advance!! Much Love!!

BTW, when I say I do Pet Therapy, that means that I go to Hospitals with my dog and visit patients to cheer them up. I don't "counsel pets". LOL!!! Just wanted to clarify that. Thanks...:-)

I was up there last week, it took me an hour to get across Sedona in traffic on 179. NO WAY I would move there

My wife and I just went through this process and are moving at the end of the month.

You don't mention how much you are looking to spend, but the property values in the area are quite low right now and you should be able to get a great deal either buying or renting.

Sedona seems to be higher-priced than other areas, with West Sedona being the most. If you want to be in Sedona but not pay as much, the Villiage of Oak Creek is a bit cheaper.

Other options to look at are Cottonwood and Cornville. If you're looking for an acre without spending a lot of money, those would be your best bet.

There are a ton of places to stay when you visit. Again, it all depends on how much you want to spend. We stayed at the Sky Ranch Lodge at the airport. It's a nice place that allows pets, and the price is good. The down side is that you run into a lot of people every time you go up and back since there are two major lookout points on the only road going up there.

Good luck!

Josietherapydog, I think you'll find exactly what you're looking for in Cornville. Prices are right, acerage is right and you're close to the Verde Valley Medical Center. Lot's of 1 and 5 acre properties there. People are close but not too close. good luck finding your new home.

The roadworks - which is the reason for traffic delays - will be completed by end June 2010.

I feel your pain but that is very unusual here and due to spring break and the construction which I'm sure will end some day

I agree Cornville is nice and cozy place with acerage. Sedona is pretty expensive but also beautiful!

I'd pick somewhere in the Verde Valley over Sedona... better cost of living, but certainly close enough to Sedona to enjoy it any time you wish.

Cottonwood...central to everything, weather is decent and plenty to do for folks who are inclined to get 'out and about'.
