I just recently moved to central Florida from Maryland. I live in a condo (i just pay rent to the owner) and am looking to get work. However, I only plan on being in Florida until January 08 at the latest. I have three questions:

1) Do I have to become a Florida resident to work here? I was thinking about working in a restaurant.

2) Can I keep my car Maryland-registered? I've heard mixed opinions in these forums about working in FL with a car registered in another state.

3) If I only plan on being here for ~6 months. Can I keep my permanent residence in Maryland (my parents' home, where I lived before here) and just work here? I plan on traveling in January and then settling somewhere (but not Florida).

In all, I'm really wondering if I am committing to anything long-term by working here. I've only planned on being here for a few months; I really don't want to have to set any permanent roots here.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Kyle

Answer: No.

Answer: Yes, if you only plan on living here for about 6 months. But, it might be cheaper to register your car here in Florida. We don't have inspections, or a tangible property tax like many other states. Also, if you plan on living here for about 1 year or more, you will need to get a Fla. License.

3) If I only plan on being here for ~6 months. Can I keep my permanent residence in Maryland (my parents' home, where I lived before here) and just work here? I plan on traveling in January and then settling somewhere (but not Florida).

Absolutely.
