Default I have a question for Florida.

Wow! I never thought I could do this. Two of my brothers who live in Florida won't answer a question for me. They say that the state of Florida has the worst drivers in the world because of these "Blue Hairs".

What's a Blue Hair? Please, they won't tell me. They always tease me about it. They say that these people come to a complete stop on the middle of the interstate! My brothers' are lying to me right? Why would somebody do that. That would be suicide on our freeways. The flow of traffic is like 78 MPH if cops aren't around. They say that sometimes you drive along and this car goes by and there's nobody in it, but it's a Blue Hair.

Are Blue Hairs invisible? Does anybody know what my brothers' are talking about or are they just putting me on?

PS: They only refer to them when they are driving in traffic. They also say that sometimes you only see their knuckles.

Thanks in advance, McGowdog.

I am pretty sure that they are referring to the little blue haired old ladies and gentlemen drivers.I have heard other people use the term "cotton heads".

While I personally have never actually seen an elderly person with "blue hair" I will agree that Florida quite possibly has more drivers who are not as quick with the reflexes or as sharp with the vision as they should be.

Personally, I myself try to refrain from using such terms as I know that one fine day I will be a "cotton head" or a "blue hair". I just hope that I know when it is time to stop driving, and that differs with everybody.

I am not sure, if this a "legit" question, or a "prank" question of sort?
Please don't get offended, if it was, indeed, a curiousity and legit question, since I feel that the name "blue hair" is a rather offensive word (maybe I'm wrong?)

"Blue Hairs" are widely known as SENIOR CITIZENS!
(I just think calling them that, is being dis-respectful....but, of course, that's just my opinion!)
Yes, I STILL see some of them, with that particular shade of hair color.
In order for white hair NOT to turn YELLOW, because of the water and oxidation, you go to either the hairdresser and get a purple shampoo, or a slight purple/ blue-ish haircolor. (It cancels out the brassy/ yellowish color in silver and white hair, and works even on blondes as well)

As far as the lousy drivers are concerned.....huh, that's a tough one.
Florida is a HUGE melting pot of all sorts of people. And, well, there are not only good drivers coming to the state, unfortunately.
So, there are senior citizens driving here, which shouldn't.
There are some kids driving, which shouldn't.
There are aggressive drivers driving here, which shouldn't.
There are drunk driver's here, which shouldn't be driving.
Illegals AND legals not having a license, nor insurance (or both!), which shouldn't drive.
There are people with medical conditions driving here, which shouldn't.....
And I could go on and on and on.
But, I'm not going to
I just think (no, correction, I KNOW) that FL is NOT any better, nor any worse then any other state!
If one uses caution, uses common sense, paying attention, follow rules, using better judgement.....then there wouldn't be any concerns at all for anybody.
But, enough of the "dreaming"....lol...because this IS the real world, where things are NOT perfect!
Hope, I answered your question, without giving the impression of insult.....because that was NOT what I intended!

That's it! That's my brothers, alright. That makes sense now. That's what they mean about the steering wheel references. I think I've seen UTube type videos of this. My mom can see well over the steering wheel and everything, but she has the seat like way up and we tease her about how close to the steering wheel she gets.

That's a sad joke. I hope I didn't offend anybody. If an elder person has good enough vision and reflexes, then all the power to them. I've heard statistics say that although the elderly can't see or react as fast as other younger drivers, the young kids are more dangerous because they drive faster and take more chances.

I'm with you, Floridamom. The day that I have to give up the wheel will be a sad day, but I'd rather be in traffic with an 81 year old driver than a 17 year old driver. I know! I was 17 before. Man, I used to tailgate and think nothing of it. Now I get back quite a bit.
