A lot of Floridians *think* they have been through a hurricane but in reality have onlye been brushed by them. If an eye of a hurricane goes over your house, you have been through a rare and sfrightening experience, but as another poster said, MANY Floridians have never nor will hey ever experience this.

Now, going through the anticipated watch and warning and near misses and brushes with wind and rain are part of being a Floridian...but that's not quite the same thing.

You're a true Floridian once you get your driver license. Hurricanes don't make you a Floridian no more than tornadoes make you a Kansan.

Only a person who was born in Florida can be considered a true Floridian. A transplant (like myself) can never be a true Floridian no matter how long I live in the state.

Not all natives have experienced hurricanes so the answer would be NO.

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I was born and raised in FL for the majority of my life and I have never seen an alligator. Does that make me a fake Floridian?

I was here 10 years before Andrew came through. It was suppose to go over where I lived but went south. Charlie on the other hand was suppose to go to Tampa but went overhead.

You always need to be prepared even if it you are not in the direct path because they have been known to change at the last minute.

Most Floridians have never lived in an area that has had a direct hit----so the answer is no.

If you have been fortunate enough never to have experienced a direct hit, consider yourself fortunate and count your blessings.

In South Florida we have to many bouts with hurricanes, and I can assure those fortunate enough never to have experienced one that the only thing you have missed out on is anxiety, shock, discomfort, and never ending runaround from insurance companies pretending to be your friend.

Some journalist and novelists have presented hurricanes as mystifying and unique----to that I say they must have made those observations from a great distance.
