Hey guys, just to add my thoughts...

The South African Boerboel, is an amazing guard dog and ideal for the hot weather, I also have to mention the Fila Brasileiro. Two of the very best guard dogs in the world in my opinion. Check them out...

Just my tuppence worth.

THX 1138 will become famous soon enoughTHX 1138 will become famous soon enough
I saw a house in the Northwood Hills section of West Palm (a notoriously high crime area they they are trying to revitalize) behind a big fence with signs saying "Beware of Dog", I think there was 2 or 3 of them Presa Canario's, at least 130+ pounds each. The one dog was chewing on a pair of Nike Air Jordans if you know what I mean?

I got my Pit Bull from the humane society.
$75 covered shots and spaying.

Anyone that pays $2000 for a dog is insane.

I agree. We don't have a guard dog we have a Basset Hound. Would anyone be afraid of a Basset?

We got him from the Basset Rescue in our area and we paid a pretty low adoption fee which included shots and neutering. We gave an additional donation because of all the good work the rescue folks do, but 2 grand for a dog is insane.

I agree. You'll never find a better guard for you and your family than a Boxer. Very protective but playful and loving with your children.

R U crazy? Of course not! People do it but those people that do, do not care about their dogs. They either die from the heat and most are lucky if they get any water at all. I see them chained all over the place. The following year I always notice a new dog in place of the one that was chained in the sun.

I hate to tell you but getting a guard dog is not a good idea. Not only do you own a potential lawsuit, but the criminals just shoot the dogs now, at least here in florida the dogs are shot first!

Our AmStaff died back in April and because the house just wasn't the same without him, we had to go out and get another. I don't normally get puppies, but we found a cute APBT through PetPal rescue here in St. Pete that we just couldn't say no to.

He's turned out to be as cuddly as my AmStaff was and fits right in with the family.

I'd say what should happen to the guy you got your dogs from, but apparently the moderator of this site feels my language is too hostile

A very frightening scenario is playing out on my street. I walk my dogs every day, twice a day 20-30 minutes per walk.

About 2 blocks down, one of the homeowners has a new, full grown Doberman that is tethered on the side of the house, no fence to keep him in, just a little rope on a clothesline.

Everytime I walk by with my dogs, the Dobie thrashes and snarles and does his best to try to break that line. Looking at it, I can say it's only a matter of time before he suceeds.

I'm not inherently afraid of Dobies (or any big dog for that matter) as one of my pups is a 3 1/2 year female Dobie. But it's just a matter of time before that pouder keg blows.
Idiot people....and they wonder why a dog bites! Tie any dog up with no attention or socialization and the dog goes nuts after a while.....I have no patience for animal abusers! They should all be sent on a slow boat to China!
Oh! first get all those poor dogs and cats out of that country where they are skinning them alive and then send all the abusers from here to China!

I have pitties and the neighbor behind me has a big ...of course non neutered male boxer and he tries to rip thru the fence to get at my dogs. He is very aggressive....due to the owner of course. My Moms neighbor has a female boxer that will bite people and kill other dogs.....of course the owners fault again. There ar no bad dogs.....it is the OWNERS!
