Default new crime stats by county --- orange co worst

on the orlando sentinel website, new stats came out for the worst crime index per 100,000 by county. the worst a saw were orange co., dade co., and hillsborough i believe.

although dade co led fla in total crime numbers, orange co. led the way in crime index per 100,000.

Nah, where are you moving to? Depending where you go I don't think you'll miss it much.

The population count for Duval looks like they are not including Baldwin, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach into the stats.

Baldwin & The Beaches are unincorporated towns with their own police, mayor, etc.

Sometimes the unincorporated towns are included in with the stats, sometimes they are left out. In the case of this report, Duval probably looks better without the unincorported numbers (plenty of crime at the beaches).

Lots of ways to slice and dice statistics .

i noticed duval crime was almost as high as orange --- a very close comparison of the two. your right, if they incorporated the other cities, duval would probably be the highest crime per capita. not a good title to have, but i wasnt suprised to see duval right behind orange and miami-dade county.

Let's see if this works. I sorted them by the crime rate per 100,000 population, and eliminated all of the data except the county name and the crime rate per 100,000, which is the proper rate to compare between counties. There are only 66 counties listed -- either I screwed up when I copied the data into my spreadsheet, or the newspaper screwed up and only listed 66 of the 67 counties. I'm too lazy to reconcile it and see who's missing.
